Delaware County Statement on Threatening Voicemail Left with Sheriff’s Office

Media, PA — Delaware County today provided the following statement regarding a threatening voicemail left with the Sheriff’s Office over the weekend:

“Delaware County is aware of a disturbing, Islamophobic, and racist threat of violence received by the Sheriff’s Office over the weekend which specifically threatened Sheriff Kamara. While the threat is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the District Attorney’s office, Delaware County Council unequivocally condemns these threats in the strongest possible terms. Spirited disagreement with public officials is one thing, violent threats and attacks based on race and creed are quite another. Violence—or the threatening of its use—have no place in a democracy. Delaware County Council stands together with Sheriff Siddiq Kamara and the entire team of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in condemning this action. We look forward to the conclusion of this investigation and in building a safer Delaware County.”
