DCHD Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness Through Empowering One Another Event and Free Mammogram Screenings
YEADON, PA – In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) will host two community events this October to help residents learn, connect, and take action toward early detection and prevention.
The first, “Empowering One Another,” will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Delaware County Wellness Center, 125 Chester Avenue, Yeadon, PA. In partnership with the American Cancer Society and Pfizer, this morning of education, speakers, and games is designed to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Lunch and giveaways will be provided.
Later in the month, DCHD will partner with the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University to host the “Give Yourself the Gift of Health” event, offering free mammogram screenings at the same location on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Screenings are open to women ages 40 and older who have not had a mammogram within the last 365 days and have no prior diagnosis of breast cancer. Insurance is not required, though patients with insurance will need a script from their primary care provider or OB/GYN. Pre-registration by October 24 is required as appointments are limited.
“We know that early detection saves lives,” said Delaware County Health Department Director Lora Siegmann Werner. “By bringing education, support, and screening opportunities directly into our communities, we’re helping residents overcome barriers to care and empowering them to take charge.”
